'If they aren't about inclusion any more, they were never about it."
'If they aren't about inclusion any more, they were never about it."
This simple yet impactful statement has been on my mind lately and I have to share about the DEI rollercoaster we've been on.
We've witnessed a rollercoaster of change: from DEI as a general concern to stay relevant to a critical imperative post-2020, and now, a steady decline into erasure. Behind closed doors, corporations and organizations are silently defunding ERGs, DEI initiatives, and non-profit partnerships. Publicly, major players are scrubbing 'diversity' and 'inclusion' from their strategic initiatives.
This isn't a natural ebb and flow. It's a retreat from progress, and it demands action. How do we address this backslide?
🔹 Hold employers accountable for fostering truly inclusive environments.
🔹 Scrutinize and support businesses that maintain unwavering DEI commitments.
🔹 Make the hard choice to redirect our spending away from those abandoning DEI principles.
Supporting DEI isn't always easy. But ignoring it and pretending everything's fine will set us back and further divide the have's and have not's. I would love to hear what you are working on to help address this in your world. Drop a comment and let's brainstorm!
